action

Mitch is your typical average American. As a real estate attorney, he doesn't have to worry about his finances and can afford a house. One day he comes back prematurely from a business trip and is shocked that his girlfriend is having orgies in bed together. Heidi's admission that she loves him, but that he does not completely satisfy her sexually, shakes him so much that he packs his bags and wants to start a completely new life. He rents a house on the university campus that will later become the association's headquarters.

His friend Frank is getting married, but tension immediately arises between the newlyweds. Frank does his best to be a good husband, but he is unable to adjust to married life. Because of this, the marriage lasts only a few days.

Mitch meets his old sweetheart Nicole again at Frank's wedding. But he doesn't make a good impression on her because he's already drunk out of grief and accidentally pours coffee on her dress. Mitch's other best friend, Bernard, throws a party for Mitch to make him forget his ex-girlfriend sooner. Rapper Snoop Dogg appears at this huge party called Mitch-a-palooza . This party is a huge hit and puts Mitch and friends at the top of the hot campus scene. The three friends try to enjoy the best time of their lives all over again by excessive parties. During the course of the party, Frank got so drunk that he walks around town naked. His wife throws him out of the house and he moves in with Mitch.

Unfortunately, Dean Gordon Pritchard shows up at Mitch's house the next morning and explains that as an on-campus house, it must serve the common good. Mitch, Frank and Bernard have to keep this to keep Mitch's house. For this reason, Bernard came up with the idea of founding the Lambda Epsilon Omega association, which is accessible to everyone. The dean is an old friend of the trio. He was always the victim of her pranks in school and now makes it his goal to destroy the connection. Although Mitch is reluctant to sacrifice his home for marriage purposes at first, he eventually agrees. They have been successful right from the start and Mitch is only called "the godfather". He makes an effort to separate his work life and work for the connection, but even at work countless people approach him to ask if they could become a member.

The death of a member troubles them, but their main opponent is still the dean. The link is broken by Pritchard, who accuses the group of violating the university's political guidelines. He also arranges that all members of the non-tolerated association who go to the university are excluded from it. Mitch discovers that the group has the right to circumvent this law by successfully running an all-encompassing test. This includes a written part as well as sport, school spirit and debating. The men pass all tasks successfully, but the late member Joseph Blue Pulasky is still on their list and got zero points in every discipline, which pulls the average down. Dean Pritchard is very pleased and declares that the university's decision is now final.

Frank and Mitch are given a tape that convicts the dean of bribing the President of the Student Council and destroys his credibility. It is now difficult for the university to stick to its decision and the connection is allowed again. In addition, Mitch's home will be replaced by the Dean's home as the headquarters. Despite Bernard and Mitch's withdrawal from the association, Frank continues to carry out his duties as head of the organization.

Reviews

  • Filmstarts.de wrote that the film had too many gags that were already there in a comparable form. Another negative point is the all too obvious turning point. It was clear from the start that Mitch and Nicole would get along in the end.
  • Filmspiegel.de praised the solid trio of likeable leading actors - Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn - as well as the fact that the director Phillips weaved in a redundantly "adult" storyline about the mess between Mitch and someone who had been adored since high school days. In one sentence the film is referred to as “rough ready-made clothing with some fresh ideas”.
