Oly Ilunga Kalenga (born June 24, 1960 in Belgian Congo ) is a doctor and was Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2016 to July 2019 .

Live and act

At the age of 13, Ilunga Kalenga went to Belgium . There he studied medicine at the University of Namur and the Université catholique de Louvain . He holds a PhD in public health and epidemiology . He also studied health economics at the Louvain School of Management .

Oly Ilunga Kalenga is a specialist in intensive care and internal medicine . He worked in the Cliniques de l'Europe in Brussels for over thirty years . Among other things, he managed the intensive care unit and was Medical Director and Managing Director from January 2013 to December 2016 . Since 2000 Ilunga Kalenga worked as an external consultant for the Ministry of Health in Kinshasa . In December 2016, Oly Ilunga Kalenga became the Congolese Minister of Health. During his term of office, the Ebola fever epidemic began from 2018 to 2020 . In July 2019, he resigned due to disagreement in the government over the strategy to fight Ebola. As a result, a suspicion of embezzlement of aid funds was investigated. In March 2020, he and his financial advisor were each sentenced to five years in a labor camp.
