Israel took part in the Olympic Games for the sixth timeat the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich . The country sent 14 athletes.
On September 5, 1972, the Israeli crew was attacked by the Palestinian terrorist organization Black September . During the hostage-taking and the unsuccessful rescue attempt, eleven members of the Israeli team, including five athletes, were killed (marked with "†"). On September 6, 2017, the place of remembrance for the victims of the Olympics assassination in Munich's Olympiapark was inaugurated.
