Omkar Prasad Nayyar

Omkar Prasad Nayyar (known as OP Nayyar , also Onkar Prasad Nayyar ; Hindi : ओंकार प्रसाद नैय्यर, Oṅkār Prasād Naiyyar; born January 16, 1926 in Lahore ; † January 28, 2007 in Thane , Maharashtra ) was an Indian film music composer who predominantly wrote for was active in Hindi film .

Career

OP Nayyar began his career as a film music writer for the film Kaneez in 1949 . His first big success was Aar Paar (1954) by Guru Dutt , with whom he worked several times afterwards, including for Mr. & Mrs. '55 and CID. He particularly wrote songs for Geeta Dutt , Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi , their careers he drove with it. It is also noteworthy that he never worked with Lata Mangeshkar , the most successful Indian playback singer.

Nayyar's specialty were rhythmic pieces. One of the most famous in India is the song yeh desh hai veer jawanon from BR Chopra's film Naya Daur (1957) with Dilip Kumar and Ajit , even 50 years after its creation . In 1957 he received a Filmfare Award for his music for this film .

After breaking up with Mohammed Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor became his preferred singer. 1974 also ended his collaboration with Asha Bhosle and Nayyar's career suffered as a result, he did not produce any more important film scores despite an attempt at comeback in the 90s.

Nayyar had a reputation for being stubborn and individualistic. He died of a heart attack. He was at odds with his family, wife and 4 children, and lived apart from them; neither were they present at his funeral.
