The Orleans Parish ( French : Paroisse d'Orleans ) is a parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States . At the 2010 census , the Parish had 343,829 inhabitants and a population density of 735.3 people per square kilometer. The Parish Seat is New Orleans .

The Parish is located in southeast Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 907 square kilometers, of which 439 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following parishes:

history
The Orleans Parish was formed on April 10, 1805 as one of the 19 original parishes. Today it mainly includes the city of New Orleans .

According to the 2000 census , Jones County had 484,674 people in 188,251 households and 112,977 families. The population density was 1,036.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 28.1 percent white, 67.3 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 2.3 percent Asian and 0.9 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 3.1 percent of the population.
According to the census of 2000, the average income of a household amounted to 27,133 US dollars , the average income of a family 32,338 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,862 versus $ 23,768 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,258. 27.9 percent of the population and 23.7 percent of families lived below the poverty line.
27.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old and for every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 83.3 men. The median age was 33 years.
