history

Osterhusen is first mentioned in the 10th century as in Ostahusun or in Hosterhusen . Later names were Aucherhusum (1347), in Astirhusum (1370) and Osterhuzen (1409). The current spelling has been in use since 1479. The name refers to the houses to the east of Hinterte .

Historically, Osterhusen is one of the most famous places in East Frisia. Osterhusen achieved its greatest importance in the 14th and 15th centuries as the ancestral home of the Allena family, whose most famous chief was Folkmar Allena . At that time Osterhusen had two castles. Osterhusen was Sielort and connected to Emden by a tributary of the Ems , Ehe . Folkmar Allena gave the pirates refuge and gained wealth and prosperity through their taxes. In 1391 Folkmar was the most powerful chief of East Frisia. Folkmar was murdered in his castle in Osterhusen.

On May 21, 1611, Osterhusen was again in the spotlight. The Osterhusische accord , known as the Magna Charta of the East Frisian Estates, between Count Enno III. Cirksena , representatives of the knighthood, the estates and the peasant class. This severely restricted the power of the counts. A trophy made in memory of the signing can be seen in the Landesmuseum Emden . To commemorate the event, a memorial was unveiled on May 22, 2011 in Osterhusen.

On July 1, 1972, Osterhusen was incorporated into the community of Hinte.
