The Palace of Beaulieu was originally a royal residence in Boreham , Essex , England , northeast of Chelmsford . It is not to be confused with Beaulieu Palace House in Hampshire , England, near the south coast and southwest of Southampton .

history

The site was owned by Waltham Abbey in the Middle Ages . The Earl of Ormond received it in 1491 and built New Hall there . The Palace of Beaulieu was built for King Henry VIII , where he lived from 1523 onwards. In 1622 it came into the possession of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham . In 1798, Sisters of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem bought the building and built a school. The buildings are still used by the New Hall School today.
