Paolo Cherubini

Paolo Cherubini (born February 11, 1953 in Rome ) is an Italian diplomat and paleographer .

Life

Paul Cherubini graduated from La Sapienza University in Rome in 1976 in philosophy and 1980 in literature . At the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archival Studies, he completed a degree in palaeography and archiving in 1977 and in 1980 at the State Archives in Rome. In 1997 he completed another degree in Greek palaeography at the Vatican School.

He worked as an archivist and research assistant at the State Archives in Rome (1978–1998) and at the Scuola Storica Nazionale (1995–1998). Since 1989 Cherubini has been Professor of Latin Paleography at the Archives School of the State Archives in Rome. From 1996 to 1998 he taught diplomacy at the Scuola di Specializzazione of the University of Cassino . From 1998 to 2013 he was first associate and later full professor of palaeography at the University of Palermo . Since 2004 he has been a professor at the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archival Studies, initially supporting Alessandro Pratesi .

On August 10, 2013, Pope Francis appointed him Vice-Prefect “ad quinquennium” of the Vatican Secret Archives . He succeeded Marcel Chappin SJ on October 1, 2013 . He has been Vice Rector of the Vatican School of Paleography, Diplomatics and Archives since October 12, 2013.

He is a member of the scientific advisory board of the journal Cultura neolatina .
