The Patinoire du Parc Olympique (formerly Palais de Glaces ) is an ice rink in Méribel , France . It was built in 1991 and originally had a capacity of 6,420 seats. It was built to host the ice hockey competition of the 1992 Winter Olympics . The construction costs amounted to 200 million francs .
After the end of the Winter Games, the stadium was renamed Patinoire Olympique (Olympic Ice Stadium) and the audience capacity was reduced to 2,500 seats. In addition to the ice rink and changing rooms, the building complex also includes a swimming pool and a restaurant. The renovation work lasted until 1997 and cost a further 80 million francs.
Shortly after the Olympic Games, the ice hockey European championship of the U18 juniors in 1992 was held in the ice rink . In 1999, another international tournament was held in Méribel, the U18 B World Cup . In 2008 the U18 Ice Hockey World Championship of Division II, Group A took place in the Patinoire Olympique and in 2017 the U20 Ice Hockey World Championship of Division I, Group A was held here.
The main user of the stadium is HC Val Vanoise from Division 2 , which plays most of its home games in Méribel. In addition, the French national ice hockey team regularly uses the ice rink for training camps.
