Patrik Inge Johan Jybyn (born April 16, 1969 in Borås ) is a former Swedish ski racer . He mainly started in downhill skiing and Super-G . Järyn won three world championship medals and three podiums in the World Cup in the course of his nearly twenty year career. He holds the record as the oldest World Cup podium driver.

biography

Järyn is a five-time Olympic participant. He participated in the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , 1998 in Nagano , 2002 in Salt Lake City , 2006 in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver . He achieved his best placement in 1998 at the Nagano Super-G with sixth place.

He celebrated the greatest success of his career at the 1996 World Cup in the Sierra Nevada . Behind the Norwegian Atle Skårdal , he won the silver medal in the Super-G. At the 2007 World Cup in Åre , he won the bronze medal in the downhill and with the Swedish team the silver medal in the team competition . Jarbyn is the oldest athlete who has ever won a medal at a ski world championship.

Despite his long career, he was never able to win a World Cup race. His best place in a World Cup race was second place in the Kvitfjell Super-G in 1998 . In September 2007, Järyn suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his left knee while training in Chile . Despite the injury hiatus throughout the 2007/08 season and the advanced age, he continued his career thereafter. On December 19, 2008, he took third place at the Super-G in Val Gardena, at the age of 39 years and 8 months; This makes him by far the oldest driver ever to have achieved a podium finish in the World Cup.

At the Olympic Winter Games on February 19, 2010, Järbyn suffered a fall in Whistler in the men's Super-G and was transported by helicopter to the hospital, where a slight concussion and facial abrasions were diagnosed. A few weeks later he started again in the World Cup. In March 2012 he announced his retirement from top-class sport.
