Paul Emery (born November 12, 1916 Chiswick , † February 3, 1993 in Epsom ) was a British racing driver and racing car designer .

Career

Paul Emery was one of those contemporaries who were always on the lookout for great success and who did not allow themselves to be put off despite the few results that could be counted. Together with his father, the young Emery built racing cars, which they named Emeryson . These racing vehicles were technically innovative, but suffered from the company's limited financial ceiling and were never fully developed.

Emery, who drove his first races in Formula Junior , contested with an Emeryson 1956 Formula 1 race. At Crystal Palace he finished second behind Stirling Moss and at the British Grand Prix he was stopped by an ignition failure.

In the late 1950s, Emery built the chassis for the ENB and Scirocco racing cars. Then he jumped from project to project without ever being able to lead one to a resounding success. In 1959 he took over the remnants of being liquidated Connaught -Rennstalls and developed the last race car, the Connaught Type C , to race readiness. This project was also unsuccessful. Emery's last Formula 1 car was the Shannon SH-1 , which started in 1966 for the British Grand Prix under Trevor Taylor , but retired on the first lap of the race after a technical defect.

From 1963 Paul Emery built a small coupe, the Emery GT, with the technology of the Hillman Imp . Only three vehicles were built and used in international endurance races, such as the 500 km races at the Nürburgring in 1964 and 1966.
