Peeter Roosma

Peeter Roosma (born December 9, 1972 in Tartu ) is an Estonian lawyer and judge at the European Court of Human Rights .

Live and act

Roosma studied law at the University of Tartu , where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1995 . For a job at Riigikohus , the Estonian Constitutional Court, he acquired in 1997 at the Central European University in Budapest the Master of Laws in comparative constitutional law. He then worked again as a consultant at the Estonian Constitutional Court and from 1998 worked in parallel as a lecturer at the University of Tartu. From 2000 to 2004 Roosma was a member of the Venice Commission . He then worked as a lawyer in the office of the European Court of Human Rights . In 2016 he became an ad hoc judge there. In 2016 he returned to Estonia and became a judge at the Riigikohus. There he was a member of the Criminal Law Chamber, the Disciplinary Chamber and the Constitutional Chamber.

In June 2019, Roosma was elected as a representative of Estonia and successor to Julia Laffranque as judge at the European Court of Human Rights. He took up his term of office, which is expected to last until 2029, on January 4, 2020.
