Per-Erik "Pelle" Eklund (* 22. March 1963 in Stockholm ) is a retired Swedish ice hockey player and - coaches , who in his active from 1978 to 1999, including for the Philadelphia Flyers and Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League has played . Career

Per-Erik Eklund began his career as an ice hockey player at Stocksunds IF , for whose first team he was active from 1978 to 1981 in the third division Division 2. He then moved to AIK Solna , for which he was active from 1981 to 1985 in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish division. With AIK, the center won the Swedish championship title in the 1983/84 season . He contributed to this success with 40 scorer points, including 15 goals, in a total of 41 games. For this reason he received the gold puck as the best Swedish ice hockey player and was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. During his time at AIK he was selected in the eighth round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft as a total of 161 players by the Philadelphia Flyers , where he had a regular place in the National Hockey League from 1985 to 1994 . In the 1986/87 season the Swede reached the playoff final for the Stanley Cup with the Flyers , in which he and his team were defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in the best-of-seven series with 3: 4 victories.

In March 1994 Eklund was transferred to the Dallas Stars in exchange for an eight-round suffrage for the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 , for which he scored two goals in 14 games and gave four assists by the end of the season. The left-handed shooter then returned to his Swedish homeland, where he was on the ice from 1994 to the end of his career in 1999 at the age of 36 at Leksands IF in the Elitserien. Especially in the 1994/95 season he was able to convince in Leksand and scored 50 scorer points in 38 games, including 13 goals. In the main round he was the top scorer and the best assists in the Elitserien. During this season he was also awarded the Guldhjälmen as the Elitserien's Most Valuable Player and was elected to the Swedish All-Star Team and the Elitserien All-Star Team. From 2004 to 2006, the former NHL player worked as an assistant coach for his ex-club Leksands IF, with whom he rose to the Elitserien in 2005. From 2006 to 2010 he worked as a scout for the Canadiens de Montréal in the NHL. Since then he has been active in his own capacity for the Edmonton Oilers.

International

For Sweden , Eklund took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1981 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1982 and 1983 . At the U18 European Championship in 1981 he won the bronze medal with his team.

In the senior sector, he took part in the world championships in 1985 , 1986 , 1990 , ice hockey world championships in 1991 , 1995 and 1996 for Sweden . He won three silver medals with the Swedish national team and was once world champion with his country. He was also in his country's squad at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , where he won the bronze medal, and at the Canada Cup , where he and his team took second place.
