Listen to Petr Čajánek ? / i (born August 18, 1975 in Gottwaldov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech national ice hockey player who was active for many years for PSG Zlín in the Czech Extra League and the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League . He also played in Russia between 2007 and 2011 for SKA Saint Petersburg , Ak Bars Kazan and HK Dynamo Moscow . He was world champion three times with the Czech national team and won the bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics . Audio file / audio sample

Career

Petr Čajánek began his career in his hometown with HC Zlín , for whom he made his debut in 1993 in the Extraliga . In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the eighth round in 253rd place, but did not go to North America until 2002. In the following years he played with varying success in the National Hockey League for the Blues and was often one of the top performers in the team. During the lockout in the NHL in the 2004/05 season, he went back to his home club.

In February 2007, Čajánek was put on the blues waiver list. Since no other NHL team signed him, he returned to the Blues squad with a greatly reduced salary. Beginning of the 2007/08 season he became the farm team , the Peoria Rivermen , deported, he that in October 2007 a one-year contract for 900,000 dollars at Ak Bars Kazan completed. Before the 2008/09 season he moved to HK Dynamo Moscow , where he could not confirm his previous year's performance, so he did not receive a contract extension. In the summer of 2009 he therefore moved within the Continental Hockey League to SKA Saint Petersburg , where he was under contract for two years.

In May 2011 he returned to his hometown club and acted as team captain for the following four years. In 2013 he became Czech runners-up with Zlín, before winning the first Czech championship of his career a year later .

After his team left the playoffs in 2015, he ended his career.

International

Petr Čajánek has participated in six World Championships and three Winter Olympic Games for the Czech national ice hockey team. He won the gold medal in 2000 , 2001 and 2005 and the bronze medal at the 2006 Olympics in Turin .
