Lackenbach parish church

The Roman Catholic parish church Lackenbach stands on an upward sloping field in the municipality Lackenbach ( Hungarian : Lakompak , Croatian : Lakimpuh ) in the Oberpullendorf district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to Saints Peter and Paul and belongs to the Deutschkreutz Dean's Office . The church is a listed building.

history

The parish church Lackenbach was first mentioned in 1222 as "ville Sancte Marie". This means that at that time there was a church or chapel that was dedicated to St. Mary . 1410 is reported for the first time by a pastor in Lackenbach. From the 15th century onwards, the parish was looked after by the Unterfrauenhaid parish . At that time there was no church in Lackenbach. The residents were Roman Catholic while the landlord was Protestant. Between 1548 and 1552, Lackenbach Castle and the associated chapel were built according to plans by Erasmus Teuffl . In 1618 Prince Nikolaus Esterházy took over the castle and brought two Jesuits from the monastery in Trnava , in today's Slovakia , to proselytize the population . A visit report by the Bishop of Győr , György Drašković, from 1640 shows that Lackenbach was a subsidiary of Unterfrauenhaid at that time. In 1663 Lackenbach was raised to an independent parish.

Initially, the castle chapel, which was dedicated to St. Nicholas , served as a meeting place for the parish. After its fire in 1806, the palace dining room was converted into the new palace chapel. In 1917 it was considered for the first time to build an independent church outside the castle. Due to the two world wars, this project had to be postponed for a long time. The donations already collected were lost in the turmoil of the world wars. Only pastor Gustav Schwarz took up the idea of church building again in 1953. The foundation stone was laid on July 10, 1955. In 1962, the church, built according to plans by Johann Petermair , was consecrated by Bishop Stephan László .

Architecture and equipment

The church faces north. It is a hall building and offers space for around 300 people. The church tower is in the south in the facade axis. The nave is vaulted with a barrel . The facility is from the construction period. The sandstone altar stands on three pillars. A baroque picture of St. Nicholas hangs on the eastern wall of the church , originally from the palace chapel. Above the high altar is a crucifix from the 18th century. There are also two figures made of stone pine, Saints Peter and Paul.
