Philipp Lienhart (born July 11, 1996 in Lilienfeld ) is an Austrian soccer player . The central defender has been under contract with SC Freiburg since July 2017 .

Beginnings in Vienna

Lienhart joined the offspring of SK Rapid Wien at the age of eleven and went through all training levels including the academy. In addition, he attended the grammar school in Vienna's Maroltingergasse, which is an integral part of the training of young Rapid talents due to a cooperation with the association. Lienhart played a total of 28 games in the second team of SK Rapid in the Regionalliga Ost .

Transfer to Real Madrid

On August 30, 2014, Lienhart joined Real Madrid's junior team on loan for a year . This year in which he u. a. Having played seven games in the UEFA Youth League , Lienhart was able to recommend himself to Real for a fixed commitment, which was officially completed on August 14, 2015. In season 2015/16 he played for Real Madrid Castilla , the second team of Real, in the third Spanish top Segunda División B compete.

After Lienhart had made his first appearance in Real Madrid's professional squad in the Primera División match against UD Levante in October 2015 , he made his debut for Los Blancos in the fourth round of the Cup against Cádiz on December 2, 2015 , as coach Rafael Benítez brought into play in the 77th minute instead of James Rodríguez . He is the first Austrian who has ever played for Real Madrid. As a member of the Champions League squad, he won the Champions League for the first time in May 2016 .

At the beginning of August 2016, Lienhart was nominated for the UEFA Super Cup , but was not used in the 3-2 win after extra time against FC Sevilla . As a member of the Champions League squad, he won the Champions League for the second time in June 2017 .

For the 2017/18 season , Lienhart initially moved to the Bundesliga for SC Freiburg for a year on loan (with purchase option) . Under Christian Streich , he was always in the starting line-up in the first nine league games. On the ninth game day on October 22nd, Lienhart suffered a muscle and tendon injury in his knee and was only used again on December 10th, during which he tore a partial tear of the anterior ligament. After he had recovered from this injury, he went on a mission at the beginning of March.

For the 2018/19 season , SC Freiburg finally also acquired the transfer rights to Lienhart.

National team

Starting with the U18s , for whom he made his debut in a friendly against Slovenia on March 5, 2014, Lienhart was used in all Austrian youth national teams. He played at the U-19 European Championship in Hungary in 2014 , where Austria made it to the semi-finals, and at the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in 2015 , where Austria was eliminated in the second round. In 2015 he also played all the games for the U21s in qualifying for the 2017 U-21 European Championship .

In September 2017, he was appointed to the senior national team for the first time to replace the injured Sebastian Prödl . He made his national team debut on October 9, 2017, when he started the World Cup qualifier against Moldova .
