Benjamin Uphoff (born August 8, 1993 in Burghausen ) is a German football player . The goalkeeper is under contract with SC Freiburg .
Career
Uphoff played in all of Wacker Burghausen's youth teams . In 2011 he joined the second team of 1. FC Nürnberg . After his colleagues Raphael Schäfer and Patrick Rakovsky were injured, Uphoff was in the club's Bundesliga squad for the first time in September 2011. He played with FCN II in the 2011/12 season in the Regionalliga Süd and then in the newly founded Regionalliga Bayern . For the 2013/14 Bundesliga season , he was officially appointed third goalkeeper for the Nuremberg first team. On August 26, 2014, Uphoff was signed by VfB Stuttgart II on loan until the end of the season.
With the second team of VfB Stuttgart Uphoff made his professional debut on October 25, 2014 on the 15th matchday of the 2014/15 season in the 3rd professional league in a 1-0 away win against SpVgg Unterhaching . In a test match between VfB II and second division TSV 1860 Munich , Uphoff caused a sensation on January 9, 2015 with a goal from a distance of 80 meters.
After Uphoff had returned to 1. FC Nürnberg for two months, he finally moved to VfB Stuttgart II on August 31, 2015. For the following season, Uphoff was promoted to the squad of the first team, for which he did not play a game and mostly as a substitute keeper sat on the bench.
For the 2017/18 season , Uphoff moved to Karlsruher SC , where he signed a contract valid until 2019. He played his first competitive game for Karlsruhe on July 21, 2017, the first matchday of the 2017/18 season, in a 2-2 draw against VfL Osnabrück . After convincing performances, he took over from Dirk Orlishausen as the goalkeeper and played every game except for the last league game against FC Carl Zeiss Jena . At the end of the season he reached the promotion relegation with the KSC, but failed in the FC Erzgebirge Aue . In the following season , the KSC then succeeded in direct promotion to the second division with Uphoff, after which the goalkeeper's contract was automatically extended until June 2020. Even after the promotion, the Upper Bavarian was still number 1 in goal, his representative Marius Gersbeck was only allowed to play in two DFB Cup games . In mid-March 2020, Uphoff announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.
At the beginning of August, the goalkeeper then signed a contract with Bundesliga club SC Freiburg , who had just lost their regular goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow .
