The prehistoric journal (own name: Praehistorische Zeitschrift) is an archaeological journal .

It was founded in 1909 by Carl Schuchhardt , Karl Schumacher and Hans Seger and initially appeared in conjunction with the German and the Berlin Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and Prehistory , the General Administration of the Royal Museums in Berlin and the North-West German and South-West German Association for Antiquity Research. The current editors are François Bertemes , Phillippe Della Casa , Wolfram Schier and Matthias Wemhoff . As a rule, the magazine is published twice a year by Verlag Walter de Gruyter . Research results from Eastern, Southeastern and Northern Central Europe are mainly published. Current monographs on prehistoric archeology are also reviewed. The individual articles are written in German, English or French, a summary in the other languages ​​is attached to each article.
