action

First season

When inexplicable events - like the appearance of giant creatures - shake England, a group of five scientists is assembled. The group is led by Professor Nick Cutter, an evolutionary biologist who is trying to find his wife, Helen, who, he later learns, disappeared eight years earlier in an anomaly in the Forest of Dean , England .

When trying to get to the bottom of the inexplicable phenomena, they find out that the creatures' footprints match long-extinct dinosaurs. In further research, supported by the Ministry of the Interior, the scientists find out that the monsters penetrate our world through time portals, so-called anomalies, and also disappear again. They are prehistoric dinosaurs and other animals as well as monsters from future ages. When Cutter's missing wife reappears, the whole thing becomes even more confused. Helen Cutter seems to have something to do with the time holes, but at first eludes any attempt to explain what happened. The team is also accompanied by Captain Tom Ryan, an elite soldier, in the first season.

In the first episode, Cutter, Stephen and Connor discover an anomaly in Dean's forest for the first time. They meet Abby, who works in a zoo and is on site because of a lizard a boy discovered in Dean's forest. The government employee Claudia Brown steps in and calls on a team. The lizard turns out to be a long-extinct species, and Cutter decides to walk through the anomaly. He finds a camera with a picture of Helen. In the present day, Cutter hears footsteps in his office. In the light of a street lamp, he discovers Helen.

In the second episode, giant spiders appear in a subway tunnel. In the search for the anomaly, Cutter is separated from the team. While trying to find him, Stephen is poisoned by a giant millipede . Cutter chases the animal to get the poison. While Stephen falls into a kind of trance, he meets Helen. Stephen tells Cutter to do something.

In the third episode, a Mosasaurus appears in a swimming pool and eats the lifeguard. The Mosasaurus disappears and appears in a distant storage lake. Cutter discovers the anomaly is moving. He swims through and finds Helen. When she refuses to go with him, she is captured by Lester's special soldiers.

In the fourth episode, Helen leads the team to an anomaly and escapes. On the other hand, the team finds dozens of anomalies. Dodos appear. Connor's friends had put a chip on Connor's bag when he moved in with Abby because he had a problem with his apartment. When Cutter and the team try to catch the dodos, a dodo swallows the chip. Connor's friends Tom and Duncan pursue the chip and kidnap the dodo. When Cutter and Abby try to dissect an already dead dodo, they discover that the dodos have dangerous parasites. Tom also gets infected and tries to kill Abby. Connor manages to talk him out of it and Tom dies.

In the fifth episode, a golfer is apparently killed by a pterosaur. The team is hunting a pteranodon . Claudia is injured in the process. In a nearby hotel, Cutter and Claudia are attacked by Anurognathen , who also killed the golfer. Helen saves Claudia.

In the sixth episode, Helen meets with the team and tells of a merciless hunter who came across the Permian from the future. They hunt and kill the animal and find out that it is hunting by ultrasound. In search of the future anomaly in the Permian, Cutter, Helen, Captain Ryan and some soldiers take the young animals with them. You are being attacked by another Predator. The soldiers, including Captain Ryan, are killed. The Predator is killed by a Gorgonopsid . Two young animals escape. Cutter and Helen go back to the present. After telling Cutter about her affair with Stephen, Helen goes back to Perm. Claudia Brown never existed.

Second season

Logo of the "Anomaly Research Center" (ARC)

New is the Anomaly Research Center (ARC) , which serves as the team's headquarters and which also houses Connor's device for tracking down anomalies, the so-called detector. In the ARC , dangerous animals from the past and the future will later be locked in cages. Also new are Jenny Lewis, who looks exactly like Claudia Brown and thus causes some problems at Cutter, as PR employee responsible for keeping everything that concerns the anomalies secret from the public, Lester's assistant Oliver Leek, who, like himself Later it turns out that she is playing a double game and becomes the enemy of the team, Caroline Steel, who pretends to be his girlfriend to Connor, but who actually works for Leek. In season two, the government cover-ups come to the fore and someone is working against the team.

In the first episode, some Deinonychus get into a shopping center. The team now operates from the ARC . In the end, PR manager Jenny Lewis joins the team, with Cutter mistaking her for Claudia.

In the second episode, a yellow fog spreads from an anomaly in an office building. Prehistoric giant carnivorous worms are hidden in the fog. Connor meets a young woman named Caroline, which Abby doesn't seem to be particularly pleased about.

In the third episode, Connor builds an anomaly detector with which he can locate anomalies. At the same time, a visitor to Blue-Sky Park is killed by a saber-toothed tiger . The team finds no anomaly and they find out that the animal got to a park employee named Valerie as a cub. This took it up. In the end, she orders the animal to kill Cutter. When she wants to protect it, the animal kills her.

In the fourth episode, after an anomaly alert, the team searches a river for creatures from an anomaly. A boy is kidnapped. Jenny is almost attacked in the water by a future shark. Abby is kidnapped by one of these creatures. Cutter and Conner look for the creatures' hiding place. They find the boy and Connor goes through the anomaly to save Abby. When he finds her, he tells her, in a very awkward situation, but clearly that he loves Abby. You come back to the present unharmed.

In the fifth episode, a girl goes to the Silurian through an anomaly . Leek sends special soldiers through the anomaly, but they are killed. Cutter and Stephen save the girl, but the anomaly closes up for the time being and they are stuck. Meanwhile, Connor breaks up with Caroline via text message because he loves Abby. Then she kidnaps Abby's lizard Rex. Eventually another anomaly opens and Cutter and Stephen come back to the present.

In the sixth episode, a mammoth hits a highway. Conner and Cutter discover that someone is redirecting information from the detector. You set a trap for the traitor. Leek recognizes the trick and sends Jenny to the supposed anomaly. Meanwhile, he exposes a Predator he is controlling in the ARC and orders it to kill Lester, who can save himself at the last second. The team locates Leek and Lester goes there personally, but Leek is already gone. While looking for him, Cutter, Conner, Abby, Jenny and Caroline are captured by Leek and Helen.

In the seventh episode, the five are still stuck in Leeks hiding place. Helen brought several animals from different eras for him. The team manages to escape when Leek's security system fails. Helen calls Stephen over and Cutter discovers that Leek has dozens of controlled Predators. Cutter manages to turn off the neuronal clamps that Leek uses to control the Predators. Leek is eaten. Cutter, Stephen and Helen lure the animals into the room with the cages. Stephen sacrifices himself to lock up the animals. After the funeral, Helen goes to the grave and tells herself that Stephen should be patient and that she could change everything. Several clones of one of the killed special soldiers from episode five then enter the cemetery.

Third season

There are changes in the main characters in the third season, including Captain Becker as protection for the team. The main character Nick Cutter also dies and thus retires from the series. The police officer Danny Quinn comes in as Cutters replacement. The Egyptologist Sarah Page also joins the team. The relationship between Abby and Connor continues to develop, and Cutter makes a remarkable discovery. The team finds out that there have been some anomalies in the past. An Egyptian deity turns out to be Pristichampsus, a prehistoric reptile from the Eocene .

There was also an online competition where fans could design their own monster. The winning design should then be brought to life in the series. The winner is an insect-like human-sized creature descended from carnivorous beetles, which will represent one of the predators of the future. This creature will appear in the eighth episode of the season. Furthermore, the third season is more dedicated to the anomalies themselves, what causes anomalies and why Cutter could get into the other timeline in which Claudia no longer existed. Furthermore, Helen is embroiled in evil machinations again and even tries to conquer the Anomaly Research Center . Home Office clerk Christine Johnson is also working against the team.

In the first episode, the team has to take on a pristichampsus and Conner discovers that the anomalies are influenced by magnetic fields and electrical energy. The animal returns to its time and the Egyptologist Dr. Sarah Page joins the team. Christin Johnson also tries to steal some kind of artifact, but her soldiers will be killed by Predators in the future. At the end of the episode, Helen camps in a building in the UK and thinks about the battle between Christine's soldiers and the Predators and how she stole the artifact.

In the second episode, Cutter develops a model of the anomalies with which he can predict them, and it actually works when Connor, Abby and Jenny find an anomaly in an abandoned house from which a camo, a predator from the future, has come. Years ago two children disappeared there and never showed up, including Danny Quinn's brother, who no longer gives up.

In the third episode, an anomaly appears in a hospital and harmless Diictodons get into the present. Meanwhile, Helen takes over the ARC and lets her new Nick-Cutter clone detonate a bomb. When Cutter tries to save Helen, he hides the artifact Helen had with him and is shot by her because she thought that with Nick's disappearance, the Predators would also disappear.

In the fourth episode, Abby picks up her younger brother Jack from the train station, while Connor thinks she has a boyfriend. A Giganotosaurus arrives at an airfield. Connor manages to change the anomaly so that it is still there, but nothing more lets through. Mick Harper and his superiors die while trying to make the story of the primeval monsters public. Danny lures the "G-Rex" back through the anomaly with a helicopter.

In the fifth episode, spores from an anomaly enter a London apartment and infect two people, who turn into dangerous mushroom monsters. Jenny is also infected, but the team manages to defeat the fungus through the cold. Jenny then leaves the team and Danny becomes the new team leader.

In the sixth episode, Christine Johnson occupies the ARC to get the artifact that predicts anomalies. Danny, Sarah, Abby and Connor escape, but are attacked by terror birds in the new hiding place. The team managed to recapture the ARC using a trick from Becker and Lester.

In the seventh episode, a Dracorex - a dragon-like dinosaur - ends up in a junkyard. He is pursued by a knight who believes he is in hell. Sarah walks through the anomaly into the Middle Ages while Danny grapples with the mad knight. In the end the knight gets back into his time and the Dracorex is taken care of by Abby.

In the eighth episode, Abby's brother Jack accidentally gets into the future. Upon arriving in the future, the team must discover that the Predators have exterminated humanity. The team saves Jack, but has to fight back against the Predators and giant future insects.

In the ninth episode, Danny frees a young woman named Eve, who was brought from the future by Captain Wilder in the eighth episode, from Christine Johnson's clutches. Meanwhile, a prehistoric rhino herd is racing towards a campsite. Eve opens an anomaly at the last second. In ARC Christine appears and asks for Eve, which turns out to be Helen. She manages to escape with the artifact and Christine. She walks her through a future anomaly, with Christine being killed by Predators.

In the season finale, Danny, Connor and Abby follow Helen into the future through an anomaly. There she transfers the information about the artifact to one of the handheld devices. She flees into the past. Connor programs a second device and they follow Helen into the Cretaceous. There they are attacked by raptors . Conner's device fails. Helen loses her device shortly after opening the next anomaly. Danny follows her. Helen goes to location AL 333 , the place where the first family of the first humans was found. 13 individuals who died at the same time for reasons unknown. Helen kills the twelve people in the place. A raptor, who happened to be caught by the anomaly, kills Helen by knocking her off a rock, foiling her plan to destroy humanity with more humans left. Helen's corpse forms the thirteenth individual. The anomaly closes and Danny is left alone. Connor and Abby, injured by falling from a tree, are still in the Cretaceous period, when Helen lost her anomaly device. In the present, Becker is at a loss, but Sarah has an idea.

Webisodes

The webisodes tell the events between the third and fourth season in five episodes.

After team members Danny, Connor and Abby get stranded in the past while trying to stop Helen from exterminating the first humans (episode 3.10), the government loses trust in ARC leader Lester. Sarah Page is killed during a rescue attempt, whereupon Becker, who blames himself for the fate of his friends, submits his resignation. It is considered to close the ARC . However, following an incident involving a stegosaurus in the lower house of the British Parliament, the minister is convinced that the operation must continue. The ARC is partially privatized and half belongs to the rich scientist Philipp Burton, who runs it together with Lester. The facility will be housed in a new building and new team members will be recruited: the young team coordinator Jess Parker and the zoologist Matt Anderson, who will succeed Danny to lead the ARC team's field operations. Captain Becker can also be convinced to return to the ARC team.

Fourth season

On March 22, 2010 filming began for the fourth season. The locations mentioned were Powerscourt Estate, The O2, Dublin Port, Grand Canal Dock and Park West Business Park. Furthermore, Connor's friend Duncan, who was there in the first season, returns for an episode.

Ciarán McMenamin , Alexander Siddig and Ruth Kearney join the team at the beginning of the fourth season, alongside Lester and Becker. Alexander Siddig will play Philipp Burton, a scientist who now owns part of the ARC . The other part remains in the hands of the government or Lester, making the ARC partly a state and partly a private institution. Ciarán will join the team as Matt Anderson, ex-soldier and zoologist, keeping a secret of his real motivations. Ruth plays the unconventional Jess, who coordinates the team from the ARC.

On June 25, 2010, Tim Haines announced that filming for season four was complete.

In episode one , Abby and Connor are still trapped in the Cretaceous Period. In the present, a Dracorex has broken out of his enclosure and is locked in Lester's office with the help of a water can. Becker drugged him there, but not yet with the new taser pistols, the EMDs , which Matt introduced shortly afterwards. In the Cretaceous Period, Connor fishes on a lake and is discovered by a Spinosaurus . Connor escapes and goes into hiding with Abby. Abby and Connor come out of their hiding place and hear a raptor . Abby drops her backpack and hides behind a tree. The raptor grabs Abby's blanket, which has many memories of the old days on it. Connor searches in the raptor's nest and finds Helen's anomaly control next to the ceiling. When Connor opens the anomaly, the Spinosaurus appears and blocks their way. The raptor is eaten by the Spinosaurus and the two get back to the present. Becker recognizes her and takes her in his arms. The anomaly is locked, but Connor wants to make it disappear completely with the anomaly control. Instead, he opens it and the Spinosaurus comes through. Abby grabs a car with Connor and they chase the Spinosaurus. The Spinosaurus is lured into an arena and shot with a taser rifle (EMD). Connor drops the anomaly control into the animal's mouth. Abby and Connor are brought to the new ARC and learn that they will lose their jobs as they have no military background. They both protest, but Lester tells them it was his idea. Later Abby and Connor kiss in their apartment and are happy to finally be back in the present. Matt meets with an older man named Gideon, who gives him a rare plant.

In episode two , a young Kaprosuchus gets into a house through an anomaly. A woman finds the animal and thinks it is a baby crocodile and flushes it down the toilet. There the Kaprosuchus kills a rat and grows into a fully grown animal. In ARC Abby must continue to work, but as a zookeeper. There she meets the Colombian mammoth from episode six of the second season. Rex comes over and greets you. Connor has been released and is looking for an apartment in Jess's house and finds his old friend Duncan. This one has become obsessed with sightings of creatures. He and Connor drive to a garbage dump and find the remains of a missing worker. The workers set fire to Kaprosuchus' home, whereupon this runs amok. Matt followed Abby, who received a call from Connor, and saves her from the creature. The Kaprosuchus pursues Abby and kills a soldier. You lock the creature in a container. But the powerful animal breaks free and pursues Duncan. Matt tries to drive the creature out of the containers with flare pistols. The Kaprosuchus attacks Becker from above. Abby, Connor and Matt shoot at the same time and kill the Kaprosuchus. Matt stood up for Connor in the ARC and Connor is back to his job.

In the third episode , Emily, Ethan and Charlotte enter the 21st century through an anomaly in a theater. Ethan blames Emily for Charlotte's death shortly thereafter. When the team shows up at the theater because of the anomaly, it is Matt who first discovers Emily and follows her into an unknown time. Meanwhile, Philipp Burton successfully prevented Connor from accompanying the team to the anomaly and busy him with the task of testing a bio-scanner. The ARC is put into a "lockdown" state. However, Connor manages to undo this.

In episode four , three students are detained. The teacher gets a coffee and is eaten by a therocephalia . Because of the anomaly, Jess sends the team to school. The youngsters mistakenly mistake them for the police and lock all doors. The girl is alone in the gym and Becker and Matt try everything to find her in time - but without success. Meanwhile, Connor goes looking for the boys and saves them. The animal can be brought back in time.

In the next episode , Matt is sent with Abby and Connor to an unusual, unstable, anomaly. But on the way he separates from his colleagues because a black box signal from Emily has appeared. He looks for her and meets Ethan, who has locked Emily in a coffin. Matt can save her and take her to the ARC . While searching for the anomaly, Connor and Abby come across a village whose inhabitants are afraid of an eerie worm. However, Philip orders them to ignore the animal and only care about the anomaly. Connor and Abby split up: Connor is looking for the anomaly, Abby for the labyrinthodontia. After Abby loses her gun while fighting the worm, she escapes into a trailer and drives to the anomaly with the worm on the roof. There the two succeed in getting the labyrinthodont and its young animal into their own time.

In the sixth episode , an anomaly opens up in the basement of a stately home - the team brings a male Hyaenodon back to prehistoric times. Shortly thereafter, the former ARC employee Jennifer Lewis appears surprisingly , who wants to get married there the next day. Instead of having the premises cleared, Abby, Connor, Matt and Emily want to attend the wedding as guests and ward off possible dangers. In fact, the ceremony is interrupted by a second hyaenodon. You kill the female and the ceremony takes place that same day.

In episode seven , Connor uses his self-developed device, which shows which year the anomaly leads. It doesn't seem to work the first time it is used: It shows the year 1867, although the anomaly clearly seems to lead to prehistoric times. After a terror bird, Danny, who was believed dead, also comes into the present through the anomaly. When the team arrests Ethan shortly afterwards, Danny recognizes in him his brother Patrick, who has been missing for 18 years. He is taken to the ARC , but can escape and get into the past, Danny follows this after telling Matt that he must not trust Philipp at all. Meanwhile, Connor and Abby find out that two anomalies are in the same place: from primeval times and the year 1867, whereupon Emily returns to her time.

Fifth season

In the first episode, Philipp Connor inaugurates his new project “New Dawn”: He wants to supply the world with unlimited energy through anomalies. Connor is then dragged into its underground tunnel by a carnivorous insect from the future. This can be found in a nest full of this type of insect. The team manages to kill the insects and get Connor out alive.

In episode two, a submarine picks up a eustreptospondylus , which remains unconscious for the time being. Matt, Abby and Connor try to seal off the underwater anomaly. Suddenly they are attacked by a Pliosaurus, the power goes out and they get through the anomaly. The Eustreptospondylus awakens and kills two submarine workers. Connor and Abby manage to turn the ladder back on so that the electricity works and catch the animal. You get back to the present and close the anomaly.

In the third episode, a Velociraptor arrives in London in 1868. Matt follows the animal that kills people in London as the "Spring-Heeled Jack". When Matt arrives in London in 1868, he meets Emily, who has decided to hunt the animal. They are arrested by Emily's suspicious husband, Henry, who plans to put Emily in a madhouse. The two manage to escape and they escape with the drugged animal into 2010. When Henry follows them and threatens Matt with a weapon, the raptor wakes up and kills Henry. Becker then kills the animal. Meanwhile, Abby breaks into Connor's laboratory to get information about "New Dawn".

In the fourth episode, Connor creates an anomaly in the ARC for Philip's project "New Dawn" . Hundreds of carnivorous bugs come through this and gnaw their way through the walls. A lockdown is triggered which closes the ARC . All are trapped. Jess is bitten by a bug and has an allergic reaction, but the adrenaline needed is outside the ARC . Philipp wants to trigger the self-destruction, but Connor and Matt manage to trigger a gamma-ray pulse with the anomaly that kills all beetles. The team survives in the panic room, the lockdown is lifted and Jess is rescued. Connor then finds out that Philipp worked with Helen. He tells Matt and Abby that his anomaly opening device was just a prototype and that Philipp has already made the final product and he is unstoppable.

In episode five, Matt decides to tell Lester about his origins and his actual job. This gives the team the green light for unofficial action against Philip's project. Matt decides to break into Prospero Industries and sabotage "New Dawn", but the team receives an anomaly alert from downtown London in which a Tyrannosaurus Rex is now up to mischief. Becker, Abby and Emily then set out to capture the dinosaur while Matt sets off towards Prospero. Meanwhile, countless new anomalies are appearing all over the world. Connor and Abby are now trying to help Matt together with Emily. However, they are caught by Philip's people and learn that the anomalies are related to a reversal of the Earth's magnetic field. By creating a huge, persistent, anomaly, all the other little ones could go away forever, says Philipp. However, Matt tries to convince him that it is precisely this interference with nature that causes the end of the world. Philipp cannot be dissuaded and starts “New Dawn”. Even Connor is unable to stop the process after several attempts. When the anomaly appears, he is drawn into it and finds himself in a distant and extremely inhospitable future.

In episode six, the anomaly gets out of hand and grows inexorably. Abby and Matt step through to find Connor. This has since been found by a future predator and captured by poisonous winds and lies unconscious on the ground. The three now try to find shelter in a bunker from the winds and mutated predators. There Matt explains to the two that the winds were created by the anomaly and wiped out humanity. When the winds clear, they manage to return to the present after being attacked again by a group of predators. Once there, they find Philipp, who now realizes that he made a mistake with “New Dawn” and was deceived by Helen. He now decides to destroy Prospero Industries to stop the anomaly, but then he has no time to get to safety. Nevertheless, he sacrifices himself for the future of humanity. Matt, Connor, Abby and Emily watch the building implode and be pulled into the anomaly, but the anomaly still does not close and remains open. You are now returning to the ARC , where Lester and Jess are trapped by several mutated predators who escaped from the anomaly in Connor's laboratory. In addition, the anomaly also created an electromagnetic wave that resulted in a power outage across London. The team now finds Jess and Lester, injured by a predator attack , in the ARC . While Abby, Becker and Emily stop the mutants, Connor and Matt try to make the anomaly from Connor's laboratory transportable in order to transport it to the "New Dawn" anomaly, as Connor suspects that the latter could be disturbed and destroyed. The team now goes back to Prospero, where Matt goes with the small anomaly in the large one, whereupon it disappears. Matt himself survived the incident and was able to save himself from the ruins of Prospero Industries. Back at the ARC , Abby proposes to Connor, which he accepts. As a result, they are called to work again, which indicates that the anomaly phenomena are continuing. On the way there, Matt meets his counterpart from another time, who admonishes him to return. However, he does not learn anything further and when he turns around, his future self has disappeared.

production

The series was produced by Impossible Pictures , known for its Walking with trilogy. Seasons 1 to 3 were produced directly for the British private broadcaster ITV and the Munich broadcaster ProSieben. In season 1, the French channel M6 is also mentioned. Since season 4, ITV, ProSieben, UKTV and BBC Worldwide have financed and produced the series. (see deposition)

The special effects in seasons 1, 2 and 3 are from Framestore, and The Mill has been responsible for them since season 4.

Deposition

In June 2009 ITV announced that Primeval has been canceled and there will be no fourth season. Due to the high production costs and a new program policy, there is no longer any space for the series. The questions that were still open after the finale of the third season should be clarified in a later movie or in the US-based spin-off series.

In September 2009 it was announced that the series would be continued due to the success in the USA and the funding of Impossible Pictures , ITV , BBC America and ProSieben . Initially, two further seasons with seven (season 4) and six episodes (season 5) were produced, which were broadcast on ProSieben in early and mid-2011.

In March 2012, the broadcaster ITV1 announced that it currently had no plans for a 6th season.

Occurring animals

  • Ammonites : In episode 1, Nick Cutter's wife Helen leaves an ammonite in his office. What became of the animal is not known as he did not tell anyone about that visit. Ammonites are extinct cephalopods that became extinct ~ 66 million years ago and had shell-like shells. The fossilized shells can be found all over the world.
  • Pteranodon : The team hunted this giant pterosaur in the 5th episode because they think he was the golfer's killer.
  • Anurognathus : In episode 5, a swarm of these tiny insectivorous pterosaurs attacks a golfer.
  • Arthropleura : Some of these armored arthropods lived in the Carboniferous. Stephen attacked a specimen of this type of giant millipede. If the animal is bitten, its central nervous system is attacked.
  • Coelurosauravus : This small, gliding reptile that gets the name "Rex" is a type of pet of Abby.
  • Dodo : These creatures appear in Episode 4. They are actually harmless, but they carry dangerous parasites that infect Tom, a friend of Connor's, and then die.
  • Gorgonopsiden : A specimen of these dangerous carnivores attacks the team in the first episode. In addition, a Gorgonopsid fights in the sixth episode against the Predator from the future.
  • Hesperornis : Cutter encounters these flightless, toothed diving birds in the third episode.
  • Mosasaurus : This crocodile-like giant lizard attacks a lifeguard in the third episode.
  • Scutosaurus : In episode 1, this giant herbivore, a Pareiasauridae , relative of the ancestors of the turtle, is the first that the team clearly identifies as a prehistoric creature. After it is chased away, it returns to its time.
  • Predator : This fictional, man-eating monster appears in the 6th episode. It is descended from today's bats and sees ultrasound . In the second season, Leek exposes a Predator on the ARC. He owns a whole pack of them and can control them through so-called neuronal clamps. In season three, they rule the future and wiped out humanity and most of the animal species there. According to Helen, they come from the ARC and are the result of Cutter's research. In the fifth season they mutated and attack the team in Matt's future and in the ARC.
  • Tyrannosaurus Rex : In the fifth episode of season five, a T-Rex walks the streets of London developing a taste for human flesh. The images appear on television. Matt can stun the dinosaur with the EMD.
  • Deinonychus : Raptors appear for the first time in the 7th episode and harass the Cutter team in a shopping mall. They also appear occasionally in later episodes - for example in the finale of the third season. Cutter and Connor always only speak of "raptors". Although the size would be more suitable for a Deinonychus, it would bemore likely that the makers are primarily targeting the Velociraptor due to the increased popularitydue to “ Jurassic Park ”.
  • Giant worms : These worms from the Precambrian appear for the first time in episode 8 and live in a brownish mist, probably a prehistoric form of the atmosphere. In the end, the Cutter team managed to defeat them by increasing the temperature in the office building with the centrally controlled air conditioning system so that the worms burst (although they spread their offspring in the room, which was switched off when the sprinkler system was triggered).
  • Saber-toothed Cat ( Smilodon ): This dangerous hunter appears in episode 9. However, the team is puzzled as there is no anomaly. It turns out that the saber-toothed tiger was picked up by a young woman.
  • Sea creature : This being from the future is said to be related to humans. A short-lived anomaly brings a small sea creature into the 21st century. Later a huge "sea queen" comes into our world.
  • Giant scorpions : Nick and Stephen and a little girl keep some of these animals in the Silurian , their homeland. At the end of episode 11, two of the giants fight for their booty: the team.
  • Mammoth : A prairie mammoth comes into the present in episode 12. It causes chaos on a motorway. The team succeeds in catching the prehistoric elephant and billeting in the ARC. There it later saves James Lester from a future being that is smuggled there.
  • Pristichampsus : The Pristicampsus (also called "land crocodile") comes to the British Museum through an anomaly . The sun cage keeps the anomaly open until the pristicampsus is back in the Eocene.
  • Camo : This creature looks like an upright walking Predator with 5 finger claws, but is actually related to monkeys. Camo is just about the size of a baby, but can throw objects up to 20 kg in the air. An animal broke into a house 14 years ago and has been waiting for the anomaly since then.
  • Diictodon : The Diictodons Sid and Nancy come to a hospital with some conspecifics. After the team has caught them, the two stay with Abby and Connor.
  • Giganotosaurus : One of these predatory dinosaurs comes into a large airport through a huge anomaly. There he causes chaos, but is then lured back by Danny. In Primeval, the theropod is shown larger and more powerful than it actually is.
  • Terror bird : Titanis , a terror bird, comes through an anomaly in episode 6 in a forest on the edge of London . However, the team faces greater difficulty than with other creatures of the size as a whole bevy of the animals get through.
  • Killer Mushroom : This creature is a mushroom that loves warmth and darkness. The entrepreneur Richard Bentley, a soldier, a Bentley assistant and Jenny become infected by this creature. However, Jenny could be cured by the cold.
  • Dracorex : Dracorex was an Upper Cretaceous herbivore, but grew as big as a human. In Primeval, one of these animals goes into the Middle Ages and from there into the 21st century. Abby saves his life and the knight also spares him in the end. But he stays in London for the time being, as the anomaly of the Cretaceous Period has closed again.
  • Embolotherium : A herd of animals penetrates into the present in episode 9 of the third season. A mother animal ravages a tent, but when her cub is outside again, the mother animal calms down. After some exertion, all animals come back to their time.
  • Spinosaurus : When Abby and Connor find Helen's anomaly opener, they open an anomaly that brings them home, but the Spinosaurus also gets through the anomaly and causes trouble for the team. He is locked in an arena. The Spinosaurus comes back to the Cretaceous in a unique way: Connor throws the anomaly creator into the mouth of the Spinosaurus, causing it to implode.
  • Kaprosuchus : A very young Kaprosuchus gets into a house at night through an anomaly, in which it makes itself noticeable through noise. A resident of the house finds the animal and flushes it through a toilet into the sewer, believing it is a young crocodile. The Kaprosuchus lives in the sewer system for the next five years, where it feeds on rats and garbage and grows into an adult animal. Eventually he leaves the sewer and becomes at home in a harbor dock. There he regularly kills homeless people and feeds on them. The authorities are not investigating the disappearances, but rumors of a predator are spreading in the docks. Connor learns of these mysterious incidents through his old fellow student Duncan and investigates them. He and Duncan come across the remains of a missing construction worker and Connor informs the team. When the Kaprosuchus is first sighted, Matt initially thinks it is an Anatosuchus, a similar prehistoric genus of crocodile. Eventually, however, the animal can be tracked and killed by joint shots by Connors, Abby's, and Matt's EMDs.
  • Arboreal raptor : The arboreal raptor (or tree climber and tree runner) is a fictional creature from the Cretaceous period and is based on the theory of tree raptors. The animal is a large lizard that is approximately three meters long, but half of which is on the tail. This is completely designed as a prehensile tail and enables the creature to find a better grip on trees. However, the animal can also drag potential prey up to it with it. The arboreal raptor is therefore mainly found in forests or in the mountains. Just like his relatives, he also has sickle claws on his feet. The tree climber has a significant intelligence, his behavior looks like an ape.
  • Therocephalia : A group of these animals invade a school and eat a teacher and a student. Matt, Becker and Connor do everything they can to save the two surviving students. However, Becker is bitten by a Therocephalia and the poison is distributed throughout his body. After the animals have been put out of action with gas, the team can rescue the students and provide Becker with medical care.
  • Labyrinthodont : In a coastal village, the residents are afraid of a huge worm that is supposed to be up to mischief there. Abby, Connor and Matt investigate and soon discover that it is a prehistoric amphibian that has already eaten a camper. To make matters worse, the animal also had a young. After the mother animal has eaten two people in front of Abby and Connor, his youngster goes through the anomaly in a cave again.
  • Hyaenodon : A pack of these dog-like predators storm the room where Jenny Lewis wanted to marry her fiancé Michael and cause a mass panic. The team manages to overwhelm the animals and send them back to their time.
  • Burrowing Future Insect : A group of these giant future beetles are digging miles of underground tunnels through London and preying on two people. The team can kill any animal with an explosion.
  • Liopleurodon : A group of these giant prehistoric marine reptiles attack a submarine in the North Sea and Jura. One of the animals also eats a theropod swimming in the water.
  • Little Future Beetles: A huge colony of these little beetles invade the ARC with their queen through a prototype anomaly from Connor and kill a soldier. Then Jess is bitten and she has an allergic reaction. The team can kill the bugs with gamma rays and ultimately save Jess.

Reviews

According to the television magazine Hörzu, Tim Haines created “Primeval”, a series peppered with first-class special effects and dry humor. According to the ratings meter, fans of Surface - Unheimlicheiefe or Jurassic Park would get their money's worth. The series is also less about dinosaurs and more about their relatives. In addition, many monsters (such as the giant worm or the dodo parasite) are fictitious.
