The province of Zamora is a Spanish province in the autonomous community of Castile and León . It is part of the historical landscape of León , which occupies the western part of Castile-León. The capital is the city of Zamora .

Geographical location

The province of Zamora has an area of ​​10,561 km² and 172,539 inhabitants (as of 2019). It borders the province of Salamanca to the south, the province of Valladolid to the east, the province of León to the north, the province of Ourense to the northwest and Portugal to the west .

The province, through which the Duero flows from east to west, largely belongs to the north meseta , a plateau between about 650 and 800 meters above sea level . Its north-western part is mountainous. There is the Lago de Sanabria , the largest glacial lake in Spain.
