Quincula lobata (Syn. Physalis lobata ) is a species of plant inthe nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is the only species in the genus Quincula .

description

Vegetative characteristics

Quincula lobala are perennial, herbaceous plants that reach a height of about 30 cm. The stem axis branches off just above the base. Arteigen is a partially very dense hair of whitish, moist, glandular and crystal-containing trichomes . These can be very dense, but also sparse, so that the above-ground parts of the plant sometimes have a scabby appearance.

The leaves have a membrane-like leaf blade that is elliptical or narrowly elliptical in shape and pointed forward, the base is tapered, pinnate or pinnate, with usually three pairs of larger segments alternating with smaller segments. The basal leaves are partly with entire margins, rarely wavy and serrated. They have a length of 3.3 to 4.5 (in extreme cases also up to 10) cm and a width of (± 0.5) 1.5 to 4.6 cm.

Inflorescences and flowers

The flowers are on 0.5 to 3.5 cm long pedicels in groups of up to five, only rarely are they individually. The calyx is 3 to 5 (6.2) mm long, bell-shaped and covered with glandular trichomes. The calyx lobes are triangular, shorter than the calyx tube. The blue, purple or rarely white crown is wheel-shaped, has a diameter of 9 to 14 (± 20) mm, the corolla lobes are barely pronounced. The five stamens are of the same shape, do not protrude beyond the crown and are fixed in the lower quarter of the corolla tube. Shortly above the starting points there are five fields with simple and branched trichomes on the petals. The anthers are attached to the front of the base by the stamens, 1.8 to 2.3 mm long, the counters are free from each other in the lower quarter. The ovary is two-leaved, the circular nectaries are not very noticeable. The stylus is terminal, is easily rolled reversed pfriemförmig in the bud, during flowering bent.

fruit

The fruits are small berries 6 to 8 mm in diameter that contain around 18 to 20 seeds . The base of the fruit is inverted, the pericarp is thin and easily breaks into irregular pieces. Stone cells are not available. The entire fruit is enclosed by the enlarging calyx, which then has a length of 15 to 20 mm. The seeds are kidney-shaped and indented, they have a length of 1.8 to 4 mm. Compared to the hilum , the edge of the seeds is irregularly shaped and slightly notched. The cotyledons are longer than the rest of the embryo. Endosperm is abundant.

Other specifications

The base chromosome number is , polyploid representatives and are known and quite common. It was found twice , once too .

Distribution and locations

Quincula lobata is widespread in the southwestern United States and occurs there in the states of Oklahoma , western Kansas , Nevada , eastern Colorado , New Mexico , southern Arizona and Texas . The southern border of the distribution area also reaches the north of Mexico , there the states of Chihuahua , Coahuila , Tamaulipas and Sonora .

The plant occurs as a xerophyte in desert areas and other disturbed habitats.
