The special unit known as the Tiger Forces Quwwat an-Nimr ( Arabic  قوات النمر Quwwāt an-Nimr ) are a division of the Syrian armed forces , which is primarily used to carry out offensives in the Syrian civil war .

They have been described as "an important force in any government offensive," even if the relatively small number of troops barely enables the unit to be deployed on multiple fronts at the same time.

After several successful operations in the governorates of Latakia and Hama , the then Colonel Suhail al-Hasan was given command of a special unit of the Syrian army in autumn 2013 . Colonel al-Hasan chose many of the later soldiers himself. Compared to the Syrian army, the unit is considered to be well equipped, so this unit has modern Russian T-90 main battle tanks .

The Quwwat an-Nimr have a special brigade called the "Cheetah Unit". Sub-groups of the "cheetah unit" ended the 35-month siege of the Kuweyres air base east of Aleppo.

According to a study by the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPI) published in February 2019, the Quwwat an-Nimr units are responsible for over 300 poison gas attacks on civilians.
