RAF Coastal Command

The RAF Coastal Command was the British Royal Air Force (RAF) coastal command .

history

On September 15, 1919, the RAF Coastal Area was established within the RAF , which had its headquarters in Thurloe Place 4 in the London borough of Kensington . As early as June 21, 1920, the headquarters was moved to Tavistock Place 33-34, before Lee-on-the-Solent in Hampshire became the headquarters of the RAF Coastal Area . The command was responsible for submarine hunting , trade wars , aerial reconnaissance and air-assisted water rescue .

On May 1, 1936, the RAF Coastal Area was renamed RAF Coastal Command and the headquarters relocated to Eastbury Park in Northwood in Middlesex on August 8, 1939 . During the Second World War , missions followed in the War of Norway , the wars for Belgium, the Netherlands and France , the Battle of Britain and the Battle of the Atlantic . During the Second World War, the No. 15 (General Reconnaissance) Group , the No. 16 (General Reconnaissance) Group , the No. 17 (Training) Group , the No. 18 (General Reconnaissance) Group and later No. 19 (General Reconnaissance) Group , the air force headquarters in Gibraltar and Iceland ( AHQ Gibraltar and AHQ Iceland ) to the RAF Coastal Command , before the No. 106 Group RAF and the No. 247 Group RAF were added.

After the end of the war, operations followed with the Berlin Airlift during the Berlin blockade , but also as part of reconnaissance flights during the Cold War .

On November 28, 1969, the RAF Coastal Command was disbanded as an independent command and went as No 18 (Maritime) Group in the Air Force attack command ( RAF Strike Command ) on.
