Raúl Cubas Gray
Raúl Alberto Cubas Grau (born August 23, 1943 in Asunción ) is an electrical engineer and politician . He was Minister of Finance from 1993 to 1996 and President of Paraguay from August 15, 1998 to March 28, 1999 .
Life
Cubas Grau is a member of the Paraguayan Colorado Party , which put him up as a presidential candidate. One of his first acts after his appointment was the release of General Lino Oviedo from prison, who had been imprisoned by his predecessor Juan Carlos Wasmosy . After the assassination of Vice President Luis María Argaña , unrest broke out in the country in March 1999. The so-called Marzo Paraguayo began, at the end of which Cubas Grau had to resign. On the evening of March 28, 1999, he fled to neighboring Brazil to avoid charges against him. He was suspected of being involved in the murder of Argaña. In 2002 he returned to Paraguay.
His daughter Cecilia was kidnapped on September 21, 2004 and found dead on February 16, 2005.
