Radio Swiss Jazz is a music broadcaster from Swiss Satellite Radio , a division of SRG SSR , the public broadcaster in Switzerland . The program reaches around 67,000 people every day across Switzerland. Radio Swiss Jazz's sister programs are Radio Swiss Pop and Radio Swiss Classic .

history

The station started on September 1, 1998 in Bern as a word and music channel under the name Swiss Culture & Jazz . It emerged from the English-language program Channel1 , which was broadcast via the discontinued telephone message and for a short time until the start of Swiss Culture & Jazz via Astra Digital Radio . In 2001 it was switched to 100 percent music and has been running under the name Radio Swiss Jazz ever since .

In the summer of 2005, the station was honored with the «Golden JAP Note» for its services to jazz and especially for its commitment to the Swiss jazz scene.

Together with the JazzAscona festival , the broadcaster awards the Swiss Jazz Award every year .

Music program

Radio Swiss Jazz's program is a mix of jazz (around 70 percent), soul and blues - musical styles that have their roots in Afro-American music. The share of Swiss music averages 50 percent. The program is ad-free.

Only Swiss jazz songs are played daily between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. In the evening between 7 and 10 p.m. the station plays classic jazz.

The station is broadcast worldwide via the Internet and Europe-wide in digital DVB-S format via Eutelsat . In Switzerland, Radio Swiss Jazz can be received terrestrially via DAB ( Digital Audio Broadcasting ) and via cable in FM . In South Tyrol , Radio Swiss Jazz is broadcast by the Südtirol broadcaster in the DAB + standard.
