Rafael Addiego Bruno

Rafael José Addiego Bruno (born February 23, 1923 in Salto Department ; † February 21, 2014 ) was a Uruguayan politician and lawyer. In 1985 he was interim president of Uruguay for 17 days .

Addiego Bruno was born as the son of Nicolás Addiego, of Italian descent, and Carmela Bruno, an Italian. In 1946 he published a historical research paper entitled "Historia de la Influencia Británica en el Río de la Plata". Addiego Bruno completed his legal training on July 1, 1950 with the acquisition of the bar title. He then worked as a judge, minister at the Court of Appeal and as a member of the Supreme Court of Uruguay ( Suprema Corte de Justicia ). In addition, from 1954 to 1964 he was a university lecturer in procedural law at the law faculty of the Universidad de la República . At the Supreme Court he also held the function of President from February 1, 1985 and was accused in the final phase of the civil-military dictatorship following the resignation of Gregorio Álvarez with broad support from the four major Uruguayan parties and the armed forces on February 12, 1985 Article 156 of the Uruguayan Constitution temporarily president of the country. During his brief tenure, he appointed two ministers and the president's general secretary. Addiego Bruno held the office until March 1, 1985 and was then replaced as President by Julio María Sanguinetti , who was elected in the November 25, 1984 elections. In the following period he was again chairman of the Supreme Court until 1993. In addition, Addiego Bruno was also the chairman of the Uruguayan Judges Association ("Asociación de Magistrados").

In 2003, Addiego Bruno was " Ambassador of Peace" for the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace ( IFFWP , in Germany IFFWF ), founded by Sun Myung Moon .
