Ralph Berger

Ralph Berger (born August 20, 1904 in Los Angeles , California ; † December 12, 1960 there ) was an American art director and production designer who was nominated for the Oscar for best production design at the 1943 Academy Awards and later twice an Emmy for won the best art direction.

Life

Berger joined Universal Studios in 1925 and later worked as an art director and production designer at RKO Pictures , Bing Crosby Enterprises and Desilu Productions . In the course of his work in the Hollywood film industry, he worked on the staging of 150 films and episodes of television series .

At the Academy Awards in 1943 he was nominated together with Emile Kuri for the Oscar for best production design in the black and white film Silver Queen (1942), a Western filmed by Lloyd Bacon with George Brent , Priscilla Lane and Bruce Cabot in the leading roles.

For the episode A Christmas Carol from the TV show Shower of Stars (1954) he won his first Emmy for best art direction together with Albert M. Pyke in 1955. He received his second Emmy in this category in 1960 together with Frank T. Smith for the episode Untouchables from the television series Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse (1958).
