Randall Bennett Woods

Randall Bennett Woods (born October 10, 1944 ) is an American historian. His research focus is on the history of the United States , as well as its foreign policy and external relations from a historical perspective.

Life

Woods graduated from the University of Texas at Austin . There he received in 1967 a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 a Master of Arts and in 1972 a Ph.D. After receiving his doctorate , Woods began teaching at the University of Arkansas , from 1972 to 1977 as Assistant Professor , from 1977 to 1979 as Associate Professor, from 1979 to 1995 as Professor, and since 1995 as Distinguished Professor . Woods has held the chair of the John A. Cooper Professor of History since 1984 .

Woods was Stanley Kaplan Visiting Professor of American Foreign Policy at Williams College from 2009 to 2010 . From 2013 to 2014 he was the John G. Winant Visiting Professor of American Government at the Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford .

His book Fulbright: A Biography received, among others, the Robert H. Ferrell Book Prize of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations in 1996 . It was also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award .
