Ransom Wilson (* 1951 in Tuscaloosa / Alabama ) is an American flautist and conductor.

Wilson attended North Carolina's School of the Arts from age 14 and then the Juilliard School of Music . He studied flute with Alain Marion , Sandra Taylor , Lawrence Morgan , Philip Dunigan , Severino Gazzelloni , Julius Baker , Christian Lardé and Arthur Lora . A scholarship from the Fondation Atlantique enabled him to study for a year in Paris, where he took private lessons with Jean-Pierre Rampal .

An album with duets for flute, which he recorded in 1974 with his teacher Rampal, started his international career as a solo flutist. He then worked with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra , the Philadelphia Orchestra , the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra and musicians such as Frederica von Stade , Jessye Norman , Thomas Hampson , Susan Graham , Dolora Zajick , Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg , Hilary Hahn , James Galway , Barry Douglas , Peter Frankl and Robin Sutherland together.
