The regional parks in Brandenburg and Berlin are located in the federal state of Brandenburg and two of the eight regional parks extend across the borders into Berlin .

history

In 2000 the eight Brandenburg-Berlin regional parks formed a community of interests and in May 2003 they founded a registered association as the “ umbrella association of regional parks in Brandenburg and Berlin”. This form of organization is intended to strengthen regional cohesion. The strengths are bundled through joint organization and future actions are coordinated. The aim is to bring the people in the metropolitan region of Berlin / Brandenburg and visitors to the region closer to the scenic and cultural-historical features of the area. The umbrella association's first joint projects have already had an impact.

  • Trade fair appearances and the design of the website are jointly supported by the umbrella organization
  • The 66 lakes regional park route has been created. It is a hiking route through all eight parks around Berlin. The 374-kilometer route is divided into 14 daily stages
  • Cycling and hiking maps are being created, and a six-part regional park map set is already available.
  • The excursion flyer summer tours in the regional parks was created.

The parks

The Barnimer Feldmark Regional Park and the Barnim Nature Park encompass the border areas of Berlin across national borders. In addition, the Barnim Nature Park in the north around Berlin is the only one of the eight regional parks that is also a major conservation area in the State of Brandenburg. The more recent development of regional parks is primarily geared towards sustainable urban and rural development, which, with their strategy for protecting open spaces, focuses on the areas of leisure and tourism . In contrast, large protected areas are primarily committed to nature conservation, as is the case for national parks and nature parks .

Some of the regional parks are linked to the inner-city parks and green spaces through Berlin's 20 main green paths .
