Reinhard von Gemmingen (born November 19, 1698 in Durlach ; † June 8, 1773 ) was a confidante of the Margraves of Baden. He was chamber president at the court of Margraves Karl Wilhelm and Karl Friedrich in Karlsruhe, but at times also chamber president in Brandenburg-Ansbach and governor of Württemberg-Mömpelgard .

Life

He was the son of Baden-Durlach's chamberlain and head stable master Friedrich Christoph von Gemmingen (1670–1702) and Benedikta Helena von Gemmingen (1674–1746). In 1710 he joined the Pedagogy Regium in Halle and studied in Gießen and Halle until 1719. He then managed the Guttenberg before he became chamberlain and councilor to the Margrave of Baden in 1724 . In the ruling house of Baden, Reinhard was the tutor of Prince Christoph's sons , whom he accompanied on a trip to Eisenach and with whom he stayed in Switzerland from 1727 to 1731. In 1732 he was awarded the Order of Loyalty and promoted to chamber master. In 1733 he was the margrave's companion when he avoided the French from Karlsruhe to Rastatt. In 1735 he received the bailiwick of the Hochberg rule. In 1736 he returned to Karlsruhe with the margrave. In 1746 he was a Privy Councilor and President of the Chamber. In 1748 he married Maria Magdalena von Bärenfels, who had previously been court lady at Durlacher Hof. In the same year he followed a call from the Duke of Württemberg to Mömpelgard as a privy councilor and governor. In 1756 he moved to the Brandenburg-Ansbach court as minister and chamber president . In 1757 he returned to Karlsruhe as President of the Chamber, where he presented a draft for the establishment of the finance and camera system. From 1761 he suffered from cataracts , which impaired his eyesight, but remained in his offices. Together with his brother Philipp von Gemmingen (1702–1785) he had the Evangelical Church of Wollenberg rebuilt in 1767 . He died of a stroke.

From 1748 he was married to Maria Magdalena von Bärenfels (1708–1780). He founded the 2nd branch (Bonfeld lower castle ) within the 2nd branch (Bonfeld) of the 2nd line (Gemmingen, Guttenberg) of the barons of Gemmingen . His wife was the first member of the family who was no longer buried in the church in Bonfeld, but in the baron district of the Bonfeld cemetery .
