Reinhold Jost (born June 4, 1966 in Saarlouis ) is a German politician ( SPD ). Since 2014 he is the Saarland Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection in the Cabinet Kramp-Karrenbauer II , Cabinet Kramp-Karrenbauer III and then in the Cabinet Hans . He was also Minister of Justice from 2014 to 2017 .

After attending the primary and secondary school in Siersburg , Jost completed an apprenticeship as a steel fitter at Dillinger Stahlbau from 1981 to 1984 and graduated with a skilled worker certificate . In the years 1984 to 1988 Jost attended the vocational training and technical college (metal) in the vocational training center Völklingen and worked on the side in the holidays in the Dillinger Hütte .

From 1988 to 1990 he trained as a financial specialist in the financial administration of the Saarland. He then worked there as a tax clerk until 1999.

Jost has been a member of the Saarland state parliament since 1999 - with a brief interruption .

Jost lives in Rehlingen-Siersburg, is Roman Catholic and single.

Jost joined the SPD in 1983. He was chairman of the Jusos Rehlingen-Siersburg (1984–1988) and the Jusos in the Saarlouis district (1988–1991). Jost has been chairman of the SPD Rehlingen-Siersburg since 1992, since 2001 he has been deputy chairman of the SPD in the Saarlouis district - since 2010 he has been the district chairman. In addition, he was chairman of the SGK Saar from 2001 to 2005 . Jost was General Secretary of the SPD Saarland from 2005 to 2014 , and from 2009 to 2014 also state manager.

Jost has been a member of the Rehlingen-Siersburg municipal council since 1994; from 1994 to 2004 was chairman of his parliamentary group there. He has also been a local council member and mayor in Siersburg since 1995.

Jost has been a member of the Saarland Landtag since the twelfth legislative period (1999-2004) . In the 2004 election he received no direct mandate; on January 1, 2005, he replaced Roland Henz who had left the company . Until 2014, Jost was parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group in the Saarland state parliament and financial policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group.

Jost ran for the 2013 federal election in the Saarlouis constituency . Ottmar Schreiner (1946–2013) ran there in the previous elections. Jost lost to the CDU candidate Peter Altmaier in the election ; he moved into the 18th Bundestag via the state list . In January 2014, he resigned from the Bundestag because he was nominated as Minister in the Kramp-Karrenbauer II cabinet. There he was Minister of Justice and Minister of Environment and Consumer Protection . He is also the Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection in the Kramp-Karrenbauer III and Hans Cabinets .

Red pants affair

In 2015, the Saarbrücken public prosecutor's office investigated the then Justice and Environment Minister Jost on suspicion of breach of trust. This was followed by the lifting of immunity as a member of the state parliament. The background was the spending affair of the Saarland state parliament in 2014 and in this context the financial affair about the SPD soccer team "Rote Hosen". In 2012, Jost, as the then parliamentary managing director of the SPD, is said to have signed off three bills for a total of 4691.40 euros for payment from the parliamentary group fund financed by the state parliament. The public prosecutor's office issued a penalty order in the amount of 7,500 euros because Reinhold Jost accepted.
