René Aebi (born May 1, 1946 in Münsterlingen ) is a former Swiss pacemaker .

Life

René Aebi grew up in Arbon on Lake Constance. As an amateur, the trained electrician successfully drove small races. In 1979 he became a pacemaker on the initiative of Ueli Luginbühl and soon belonged to the elite of European pacemakers.

Aebi was twice European champion, eight times Swiss champion in the standing race, once Swiss champion in the derny race with Bruno Risi and together with Roland Günther international Italian standing champion. He also competed in the finals of the Stayer World Championships many times and, together with Peter Steiger (Max Hürzeler) Arno Küttel (Peter Steiger), played a key role in helping them achieve their world championship titles. He won the World Cup for stayers, which was previously held in Dortmund , five times and recorded a total of 13 overall victories in six-day races with various racing drivers . With Hanskurt Brand, Aebi drove the championship record for stayers, which is still valid today, of 78,835 km over an hour. With Bruno Risi, Aebi won all derny races at the Oerlikon open race track from 2000 to 2008 (the year Risi retired) . On July 16, 2017, Aebi contested its last race in Forst.
