Stefan Schäfer (born January 6, 1986 in Forst ) is a German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

At the 2004 Junior World Championships in Los Angeles , Schäfer won the silver medal in the team pursuit together with Patrick Gretsch , Sascha Damrow and Matthias Hahn . In the same year he won on the road in both the Road World Championships , as well as in the German Championships bronze in the individual time trial of the juniors, and he was German Vice Champion in the road race.

In 2005 he was also third in the U 23 class of the German Time Trial Championship, and he also achieved second place overall in the cycling Bundesliga behind Paul Martens . In the following years, Schäfer was able to continue his series of good results in time trial championships in the U23. In 2006 he reached fourth place at the German Championships, and in 2007 third place. At the 2006 road cycling world championships in Salzburg , he was sixth in his specialty.

In the elite category, Schäfer won stages in various international stage races and in 2011 the overall ranking of the Tour of Greece . On the track he won several national championship titles: 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 in the team pursuit, 2010 and 2013 in the single pursuit .

After he had already driven two stayer races in Forst in 2013 and 2014 , Schäfer decided in summer 2014 to devote himself consistently to this endurance discipline. He contested the summer price of the stayers on July 12, 2014 in Heidenau for the first time with the Nuremberg pacemaker Peter Bäuerlein . Four weeks later they surprisingly won their second joint race in Leipzig, but also clearly at the 2014 German Standing Championship. At the end of August 2014, Schäfer / Bäuerlein in Forst took second place at the 2014 UEC European Standing Championship. In 2015 and 2016 they were able to Schäfer und Bäuerlein successfully defend the national stayer title in Leipzig and Forst . In 2015 they also won the German Derny Championship in Nuremberg together . On October 18, 2016, shepherds / peasants in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines became European champions for standing .

In 2017, Stefan Schäfer and the pacemaker Peter Bäuerlein jointly won the German championship title in the standing race for the fourth time in a row at the Reichelsdorfer Keller cycle race track in Nuremberg. At the European Railway Championships in Berlin, Schäfer and Bäuerlein took third place.

In 2017, Stefan Schäfer and Nico Heßlich founded the Windschatten Lausitz association in Cottbus , which organizes cycling tours for everyone.
