Dieter Giebken

Dieter Giebken (born December 9, 1959 in Münster ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Dieter Giebken's father, "Bubi" Giebken, was a cyclist, he trained his son until 1974, after which he was looked after by Rüdiger Rabenstein . Giebken was a member of the "Post SV Münster". He won 20 German championship titles.

In 1979 , 1981 and 1982 Giebken was vice world champion in the tandem race of amateurs, 1979 with Hans-Peter Reimann , 1981 and 1982 together with Fredy Schmidtke . In 1983 , the two took third place together. Schmidtke was outclassed for doping; however, this decision was revised by the World Cycling Federation Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in November of the same year . In 1985 Dieter Giebken was third at the World Track Championships in Keirin and in 1986 vice world champion.

He was named Sportsman of the Year by the Sports Association of the City of Münster at the Ball des Sports in 1978.
