Gerd Dörich (born February 14, 1968 in Sindelfingen ) is a former German cyclist .

Athletic career

Gerd Dörich was a professional racing driver from 1990 to 2008. He began his professional career with the German team in Stuttgart . During this time, he contested 168 six-day races and is eleventh in the all-time ranking. Dörich has taken podium places several times, for example in the six-day races in Stuttgart and Berlin . As a “mood cannon”, Dörich was particularly popular with the audience.

In 2002 Dörich took third place behind the lead of pacemaker Sami Mooij at the UEC Derny European Championships in Amsterdam . In 1994 he became German champion in two-man team driving (with Markus Heß ) and again in 2004 (with Frank Kowatschitsch ). In 2004 he also won the six-day race in Stuttgart with Andreas Kappes and Andreas Beikirch . At the age of 40, Gerd Dörich retired from active cycling.

After the sport

Since the end of his active career, Dörich has worked as a house technician. He got involved in the Steilkurve campaign , in which the blind and disabled can ride behind him as a pilot on a tandem on a cycling track (in Bremen or Öschelbronn).
