René Daniëls
René Daniëls (born May 23, 1950 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch painter.
life and work
René Daniëls was a student at the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgeving St. Joost in 's-Hertogenbosch until 1976 . His role models are Francis Picabia , René Magritte and Marcel Broodthaers .
A well-known painting by René Daniels is "Hollandse Nieuwe" of 1982. He had suddenly (according to Daniels in an interview 1983) The underlying idea for this painting when he first herring of the season, young herring which, as usual, in the Netherlands, of Hand to mouth. While eating the “Hollandse Nieuwe” the thought occurred to him: “Stel dat ze ontdekken hoe lekker ze zelf zijn. Dan vreten ze elkaar misschien allemaal op en hebben wij niets meer./ Imagine if you discovered how delicious you are. Then maybe they'll eat each other up and there's nothing left for us ”.
The work is to be understood as a commentary on the art world , like several other works by René Daniëls. Academie (1982) focuses on the art academies and The Most Contemporary Picture Show (1983 ) deals with current exhibition practice.
In 1987 a stroke caused permanent motor disorders in René Daniëls .
