action

The police officer Reno Raines becomes aware of the machinations of his corrupt colleagues, who have meanwhile changed fronts. Since he wants to testify against them in a trial, they try to kill him. The assassination attempt on him fails, but Raines' girlfriend is killed in the process. The mastermind, Donald "Dutch" Dixon, then shoots the co-criminal Buzzy Burrell and accuses Raines of the murder.

The corrupt colleagues put the Indian Bobby Sixkiller, who runs a bounty hunter company (Sixkiller Enterprises) with his half-sister Cheyenne, on Raines. After a while, Sixkiller is able to catch Raines and wants to hand him over to collect the high bounty that is exposed to his capture. On the long drive back to the police station, however, Sixkiller believes Raines is innocent and suggests a deal. He does not hand him over and helps him on his escape if Raines works for him in the future. Raines agrees.

Raines gets a new identity from Sixkiller. From then on he's Vince Black; In the aftermath he roams the country lonely, fleeing the police and on the hunt for criminals. Sixkiller and Raines become friends as the series progresses, so Sixkiller tries to prove Raines' innocence. Reno and Cheyenne fall in love on the show, but never live out their feelings for each other.
