Renier of Saint-Trond
Renier von Saint-Trond (born in Sint-Truiden ) was rector of a Latin school in Mechelen before 1381 and the author of a commentary on the Consolatio philosophiae des Boethius .
His student Michael von Retie communicated this information in a copy of this commentary, completed in 1381. Adriaan Pattin suspected that the school mentioned was located at the Augustinian Convention in Mechelen.
Renier's Boethius Commentary was printed in French translation in 1477 by Colard Mansion in Bruges and in 1494 by Antoine Vérard in Paris. The Dutch commentary that Arend De Keysere added to his Ghent Boethius edition in 1485 was also based heavily on Renier's work. The Boethius Commentary by Arnoul Gréban , written around the middle of the 15th century and handed down in two manuscripts , also names Renier von Saint-Trond among the authors consulted.
