Request Tracker (often abbreviated as RT ) is a free trouble ticket system written in the Perl programming language for coordinating and answering inquiries (trouble tickets) by e-mail . RT has been developed since 1996 by Jesse Vincent, who with his company Best Practical Solutions LLC sells solutions for this software.

The program is written in object-oriented Perl and can be adapted and expanded to a large extent to your own needs and requirements using several approaches. So there is, for example, a book written by Jesse Vincent FAQ Manager module named RTFM (RTFaqManager), indicating the network jargon RTFM (abbreviation of English: "Read the fucking manual" , German: "Read the fucking manual" ) alludes.

RT is used by NASA , the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , Carnegie Mellon University , Merrill Lynch , the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network and the developers of the Perl programming language to handle inquiries, bug reports, etc.
