Restrepo is a US Army outpost named after the soldier Juan Restrepo who fell nearby in the Afghan Korengal Valley, a stronghold of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda . For over a year, the directors Sebastian Junge and Tim Hetherington accompany a platoon of 15 soldiers from the 173rd US Airborne Brigade on their mission and show the troops' everyday life, which is characterized by firefights. Neither diplomats nor generals have a say, the viewer only learns what the soldiers will experience this year and how they cope with their experiences after returning from their mission.
