Retief Goosen (born February 3, 1969 in Pietersburg (now Polokwane ), South Africa ) is a professional golfer . He is a two-time major winner and was in the top 10 of the golf world rankings for 250 weeks from 2001 to 2007. His nickname is "The Goose".

Career

His amateur career was briefly interrupted when he was struck by lightning at the age of 16. Goosen turned professional in 1990 after winning the South African Amateur Championship . He now has two US Open wins, 2001 and 2004. He won the European Tour Order of Merit (money list) in 2001 and 2002.

Goosen has been one of the most consistent players in the world since 1995: he won every year around the world and he has also done so on the US PGA TOUR since 2001. He was in the top 6 of the official world rankings for a long time , in which he was in 2006 except advanced to 3rd place. After a poor 2007 season, Goosen temporarily slipped out of the top 20.

Goosen is known for his extremely stoic calm and serenity, which earned him another nickname, "The Iceman", on the PGA TOUR.
