Rheinen is a district in the north of the city of Iserlohn in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 800 inhabitants. It borders in the east and south on Hennen and Rheinermark , in the north and west on Schwerte . The lowest point in the city of Iserlohn lies on the Ruhr near Rheinen at 106.2  m above sea level. NN . The city of Iserlohn is located in the northwest of the Sauerland and belongs to the Märkisches Kreis .

Rheinen traces its origin to the mention in a document of the Archbishop of Cologne from the year 1089 as Hof Rene . This was at the intersection of a road running parallel to the Ruhr from west to east with a road leading to a ford through the Ruhr in north-south direction. Perhaps Rheinen even as early as the year 884 in the older Urbar of Will monastery an estate hreni is mentioned, that could also fit today's Rheinen.

Until the end of 1974, Rheinen belonged to the municipality of Hennen in the district of Iserlohn , which was then part of the Ergste district and was assigned to the city of Iserlohn on January 1, 1975.

Rheinen is a pure “residential village” with a mixture of older courtyards, housing developments from the post-war period, a new development area from the 1970s and various gap developments from the later decades.

The cultural center is the village community center on Dorfstrasse. The Rheinen village community organizes regular events and meetings for the individual groups in the premises previously used as a school and kindergarten, as well as in the outdoor area with a playground.
