Ricardo Bofill Leví ( December 5, 1939 in BarcelonaJanuary 14, 2022 in Barcelona) was a Spanish postmodernist architect .

Life

Bofill was born in 1939 to a Spanish building contractor and an Italian mother. After attending French high school, he began studying architecture in Barcelona before moving to the École d'architecture in Geneva . In 1963 he founded his office Taller de Arquitectura in Barcelona . In 1971, Bofill opened a branch in Paris , where he developed several monumental suburban developments - such as the Espaces d'Abraxas - in the 1980s .

From 2000 he controlled his international activities again from Barcelona, ​​where the architecture workshop is housed in a former cement factory in Sant Just Desvern . His team, which he led together with his partners Peter Hodgkinson and Jean-Pierre Carniaux, included around 60 employees from 12 countries; in addition to architects and urban planners, he also employed scientists, model makers, interior designers, furniture makers and graphic artists.

Ricardo Bofill has received numerous international architectural awards and was an officer of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres . In 1997 he became an honorary member of the Association of German Architects BDA .

He lived in La Fàbrica (see section Buildings : 1973-1975) near Barcelona. His stepdaughter is Mexican singer Paulina Rubio . Ricardo Bofill died in Barcelona in January 2022 at the age of 82 as a result of a corona infection.
