Richard Schütz

Richard Schütz (born January 31, 1967 in Krefeld ) is a former German ice hockey referee . He was a long member of the GSC Moers .

From around 1981 Schütz directed ice hockey games . From 1995 he was also active in Germany's highest league, the DEL . Around 2000 games took place under his leadership, including over 500 DEL games and almost 200 international appearances. As one of two DEL referees, Schütz took part in the Referee Exchange Program of the IIHF from 2004 , so that he also led games in the SM-liiga (Finland), the Czech Extra League , the Swiss National League A , the Russian Super League and the Swedish Elite Series .

His career highlight was leading the final of the 2006 World Cup in Latvia, after he had already been allowed to whistle a semi-final there. For a final game in the DEL Schütz was assigned for the first time in the 2006/2007 season.

Schütz is an amateur referee, professionally he works as a sales manager for a large German electrical company. For the 2006/07 DEL season , the league hired two new professional referees, but Schütz, who was one of the favorites for this position, declined.

In 2014 he finished his work as a referee and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame Germany in 2015 .
