Richard Strasser

Richard Strasser (born March 28, 1889 in Eferding , † October 22, 1982 in Linz ) was an Upper Austrian worker and socialist politician.

Life

Richard Strasser was the son of the Danube shipper Andreas Strasser and his wife Maria (née Gallhammer). He was born in Eferding and worked as a metal worker, locksmith and lathe operator. From 1917 he was the organizer of the initially illegal workers' council. On January 14, 1919, he took over the provisional management of the Upper Austrian Workers' Council. On May 26, 1920 he resigned as chairman of the state workers' council. On June 8, 1920, after being rehabilitated by the Reich Workers 'Council in Vienna, he was again chairman of the Upper Austrian Workers' Council. In 1934 he fled to Czechoslovakia and later to the Soviet Union and in 1937 to England.
