history

Memorial stone to the battle of Rossbach

The place became known through the battle of Roßbach on November 5, 1757. Roßbach belonged to the Wettin , later Electoral Saxon office of Freyburg until 1815 . The decisions of the Congress of Vienna the place to Prussia came only in 1816 the county Querfurt in the administrative district of Merseburg of the Province of Saxony assigned to which he belonged until 1,952th

In the course of the lignite mining in the Geiseltal , part of Roßbach was relocated in 1963 and dredged ( devastated ) in 1966 . In this open-cast mine, high-quality clay is still extracted from the surface today. Another, small mining field was opened up and charred again in the 1970s. This is where the Hassesee is located today.

In the local cemetery , graves are reminiscent of three Poles who are known by name and who were abducted to Germany during the Second World War and were victims of forced labor . The same applies to the cemetery in the Leiha district , where the graves of nine Polish forced laborers known by name are located.
