Rod Temperton

Rodney Lynn "Rod" Temperton (born October 9, 1949 in Cleethorpes , † September / October 2016 in London ) was a British songwriter , music producer and musician . He wrote, among many other compositions, the title Thriller for Michael Jackson and other hits for his album of the same name, Thriller , which is currently the best-selling music album.

biography

Temperton attended De Aston School in Market Rasen . In 1972 Temperton and Bernd Springer, who was looking for a keyboard player through a newspaper advertisement, founded the soul cover band Sundown Carousel in Worms . With their band they toured clubs and GI bars in Mannheim . During the 1970s Temperton met Quincy Jones . In the early 1980s Temperton left Worms for Beverly Hills . He wrote and composed for numerous artists a. a. Donna Summer , Herbie Hancock , Aretha Franklin , George Benson , LL Cool J and Mariah Carey and was a founding member of the funk band Heatwave . He received an Oscar nomination for Miss Celie's Blues (Sister) , which he composed with Jones for the film The Color Purple .
