Sir Roger Geoffrey Gibbs (born October 13, 1934 in Howell, Sherborne , † October 3, 2018 in London ) was a British financier and philanthropist .

Career

Roger Gibbs studied at Eton College in Berkshire and Millfield, Somerset . After a career as a stockbroker , he became Chairman of Gerrard and National Discount Co Ltd. , worked for the multi-family office Stonehage Fleming and sat on the board of directors of Arsenal Football Club .

The Gibbs Building in the London Borough of Camden , the administrative building of the Wellcome Trust , of which Gibbs was Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1983 to 1999, was named after him .

Private

Gibbs was the fourth son of Sir Geoffrey Gibbs, KCMG , and Lady Gibbs, CBE . His younger brother was the antique dealer and art collector Christopher Gibbs . He had been married since 2005 and died at the age of 83.
