Roland Bassaler

Roland Bassaler (born July 11, 1946 in Mayenne ) is a former French car racing driver and racing team owner.

Racing career

Roland Bassaler, a BMW dealer from Laval , was active as a GT and sports car driver in the 1980s and 1990s . Together with Yvon Tapy , a fellow dealer from Niort , he contested his first races in the French GT championship in 1983.

In 1985 Bassaler bought a racing car from Peter Sauber with financial support from Bellanger, an exhaust manufacturer from Laval . The Sauber SHS C6 had the chassis number 82-C6-02. Bassaler replaced the existing Cosworth engine with a BMW 6-cylinder turbo engine and competed in international sports car races in the following years. He contested the Le Mans 24-hour race four times with the car . He was only able to place in the 1985 debut race ; together with Tapy and Dominique Lacaud he was 23rd overall. His best placement in a sports car race was 12th in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring in 1986 .
